Boone County Development Office Pleased to Announce Massey Energy
Will Build
New Headquarters in Boone County
Massey Energy, Boone County’s leading employer, will build a
Regional Headquarters at Wash Branch Road, just off Corridor G (U.S. 119), in
Boone County. The three-story, 51-000 square foot building will open in the
Summer of 2008, and will employ approximately 120 people. Massey will
consolidate its Charleston and Chapmanville offices, putting the company closer
to mining operations in Southern West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the new multi-million dollar facility was held
October 29, 2007, featuring Massey’s top executives and local officials. The new
office building will feature a cafeteria and fitness center. The company also
has plans to build an Employee Training Center near the building.
“This new building’s central location will better support Massey’s projected
growth and symbolizes our commitment to the region,” said Don Blankenship,
Massey’s president and CEO.
Larry V. Lodato, director of the Boone County Community and Economic Development
Corp., said Massey is an important part of Boone County’s economy with over
1,500 local employees, and applauded the company for its community involvement
in various projects for the youth and seniors of Boone County, and for its
vision for the future in the coalfields of Southern West Virginia.
“Massey Energy’s commitment to Boone County is unsurpassed,” Lodato said. “This
project alone will result in $120,000 in annual tax revenue for the county
coffers.”
